The draft report will now be reviewed with reference to the feedback received, and the final Resilient South Regional Climate Action Plan will be presented to all four councils for approval in the first half of 2024.

Background

Resilient South is a partnership between the Cities of Holdfast Bay, Marion, Mitcham and Onkaparinga and the South Australian Government that aims to increase climate change adaptation and emission reduction action in the southern Adelaide region.

In January 2023, we asked you to tell us your thoughts on what you think we should be doing to reduce emissions and prepare for or respond to climate change. We also asked what you think our future “climate-ready” southern Adelaide region should look like.

The Resilient South partners have taken your feedback to form a draft Resilient South Regional Climate Action Plan (ReCAP), which provides a strategic focus for the Resilient South councils to undertake adaptation measures to address a changing climate and further reduce greenhouse gas emissions across southern Adelaide. The draft plan has been developed through consultation with our key stakeholders, including the agencies that we work with, Kaurna representatives, young people, and a general community survey.

The draft ReCAP focuses on what the partners will do together, including how we can support and partner with others to progress change. It builds on our success over the past decade and provides a platform to nurture the relationships we have formed and develop new partnerships to benefit our region.
